Thelma Whittington

Thelma Marie Whittington, 85, of Butler passed away at 1:30 a.m. Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

She was born on Dec. 24, 1928, in Claytonia to the late Arthur Paul Grossman and Myrtle Lillian Reagle Grossman.

Mrs. Whittington was a homemaker and a Baptist. In her earlier years, she worked for the Butler Stamping Co.

Mrs. Whittington enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, watching game shows, and listening to country music. She was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan who loved her two dogs, Boggie and Beau, and her cat, Willie.

Mrs. Whittington is survived by her two sons, John David Whittington and his wife, Lorna, of Butler, and Gary Eugene Whittington of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her six grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Thompson Whittington, whom she married on Jan. 21, 1949, and who passed away on Dec. 12, 1994; her two sisters, Charlotte Josephine Renforth and Irene Brink, and her two brothers, Arthur Paul Grossman Jr. and Winford Warren Grossman.

Whittington — The friends of Thelma Marie Whittington, who passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Clark Sawyer of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating.
