Teen injured in quad accident in Jefferson Twp.

JEFFERSON TWP — A teenager fractured his right leg Monday night after his quad went over an embankment along Tower Road and he flew into a tree.

Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company said the four-wheeler landed on its tires after going down the five-foot embankment, but the 14-year-old was thrown from the seat.

“He flew off it,” Ballina said.

He said the break was below the boy’s hip.

However, he said the injuries could have been worse.

“He had a helmet on, thank God,” Ballina said.

While injured, the teen was able to call his parents on a cell phone. One of the parents called 911 at 5:13 p.m.

Along with the fire company, Saxonburg Ambulance responded.

Ballina said it was fortunate the boy was able to call for help because his body could not be seen from the road and he was in no condition to crawl up the embankment.

The teen was flown by medical helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.
