7:05 p.m. Tuesday — A 15-year-old suspected shoplifter was nabbed after he shoved a Kmart employee and ran off in a getaway bid from the Pullman Square store. Police a short time later caught the Butler boy on Pillow Street. He is charged in juvenile court with robbery and retail theft.Tuesday — Police charged Edward J. Rishel, 25, of Butler Township with stealing nearly $1,800 in merchandise from Kmart in the Pullman Square shopping plaza between June 20 and Oct. 20 when he worked at the store.Rishel, a Kmart employee for about two years, worked in the merchandise claim department. Store security officials suspected he was taking merchandise and began watching his work under video surveillance.The surveillance confirmed those suspicions, according to court documents.A Kmart security employee spoke to Rishel, who allegedly admitted to the thefts that spanned four to five months. The defendant acknowledged taking $1,794 in merchandise, primarily electronics, clothing and jewelry, a police affidavit said.Rishel is charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of retail theft. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 15 at the office of District Judge Pete Shaffer.

10:35 p.m. Tuesday — A vehicle driven by Nathanual Royce Wong, 33, of Slippery Rock traveled onto a grassy median strip and struck two utility poles near Aldi's supermarket at the Butler Commons shopping plaza.

5:28 p.m. Tuesday — Cars driven by Sarah L. Muto, 31 and William R. Dingel III, 19, both of East Butler, collided at Grant and Madison avenues in East Butler. Police cited Muto for a stop sign violation.

8:28 a.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Steven J. Morgante, 50, of Sarver was rear-ended by another car on Route 28 at the exit 12 off-ramp in Springdale Township, Allegheny County. Police said the other driver, Amy L. Holmes, 30, of Pittsburgh, was cited for careless driving.

Monday — Police reported they are investigating the burglary of a Springfield Township church earlier this month.The Grove City Alliance Church on North Liberty Road was broken into between 11 p.m. Oct. 12 and 8 a.m. Oct. 13. Computer equipment and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen. A police report did not indicated if there are any suspects. The church pastor, Rev. Paul Goodman, could not be reached for comment.Anyone with information is asked to call 724-662-6162.

Wednesday — A thief stole an aluminum pole from a man's home in the 200 block of Arthur Drive in Plain Grove Township.Tuesday — Police reported they have a suspect in a roofing repair scam earlier this year that targeted an 83-year-old Slippery Rock area man.The suspect, who police did not identify, in May collected an unspecified down payment to install a new roof on the victim's house on Stoughton Road in Scott Township. But the suspected con man did not complete any work nor did he return the victim's money.Theft by deception charges are pending against the suspect.
