Freeport's Clawson 5th in PIAA golf

After a one-hour frost delay at Heritage Hills Golf Center and Resort in York Monday morning, Freeport junior Audrey Clawson shot an 83 to finish tied for fifth place after the first round of the PIAA Class AA Girls Golf Championships.

Clawson is two strokes behind co-leaders Katie Behnert (Milton), Marissa Kirkwood (Neshannock) and Olivia Zambruno (Greensburg Central Catholic), who all shot a 9-over-par 81.

Clawson had two birdies on the day, but double-bogied the 18th hole to come in two strokes off the lead.

The second and final round will be held today.

Keaton Hanna registered a hat trick and added two assists to help Mars stop Westmont Hilltop 12-3 in a PIHL Class A Tier 1 Eastern Conference matchup at BladeRunners Warrendale.Kyle Thomas also registered five assists and a goal for Mars (3-1). Tyler Spreng made 14 saves to earn the win.Freeport 4, Montour 1 — Hunter Kepple, Nick Rusak, Ethan Waddell and Michael Frazzetta scored to help the Yellowjackets (2-2) beat the Spartans at the RMU Island Sports Complex.Butler 3, Penn-Trafford 3 — The Golden Tornado outshot the Warriors 54-27, but neither team could find a way to win at Center Ice. Marcus McCall, Connor Scott and Trevor Gilliland scored for Butler (2-0-1).

Emilee Rankin had 16 assists and Lexey Shick had 16 digs as Union swept Moniteau 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.Eiley McGregor, Kali Flick and Taylor Adams led The Damsels with five kills apiece.No individual statistics were available for Moniteau.
