Fuzzy credits

Regarding Butler County Democratic Committee Chairman Georgeann Kerr’s letter (“Credit Democrats,” Oct. 15).

The statement that the federal deficit has been cut by two-thirds is misleading. In 2009, the national debt was near $10 trillion; six years later it was at $17 trillion.

The unemployment numbers are also misleading due to the fact that people who gave up looking for work are not counted as part of the unemployed. A lot of fuzzy math produces the jobless numbers being reported.

To say the Republican Congress is sitting on its hands, doing nothing, is also untrue. The House has sent hundreds of bills to the Senate, where Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid refuses to bring them to a vote.

When the Republicans win the Senate in November’s election, we’ll see how much our Republicans are trying to fix this country.

We’ve had six years of foolish policy making. There will be bills put on the president’s desk, then we’ll see who wants to bring America back to civility.
