Myers nets pair in Gremlin win

Spenser Myers scored the tying goal on a penalty kick and the winning goal with 25 minutes remaining in the second half as the Karns City boys soccer team edged DuBois Area 2-1 Tuesday night.

The win closes the regular season for the Gremlins (15-2-1), who will wait to see where they are seeded and who they will play in the District 9 playoffs, which begin next week.

Jess Kelley had 11 kills and 13 blocks as Freeport continued to roll with a 25-10, 25-9, 25-15 win over Burrell.Zoe Pawlak added 10 kills, 10 service points and seven aces and Grace Ward 26 assists and eight blocks for the Yellowjackets (16-0, 11-0).Knoch 3, Obama Academy 2 — Sarah Armahizer had nine kills as the Knights gutted out a 26-28, 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 17-15 win.Katie Bozzo added seven kills, 12 service points and 27 digs and Kiley Hajek pitched in 14 service points and six kills for Knoch (12-4, 9-2).Pine-Richland 3, Butler 1 — Paige Lamermont had 15 kills, but the Golden Tornado fell 25-23, 16-25, 16-25, 23-25.Alyssa DiPippa added 11 kills, Lauren Skidmore 13 digs and Caitlyn Martin 10 digs for Butler.A-C Valley 3, North Clarion 2 —Sadie Longo had a career high 18 kills and also had 10 digs as the Falcons survived with a 26-28, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 15-7 victory.Alyssa Babcock added 17 digs and 14 assists, Morgan Cratty 14 digs and 13 kills and Katie Stumpner pitched in 27 digs for A-C Valley (10-2).Union 3, Venango Catholic 1 — Michaela Lencer had 17 service points and four aces as the Damsels rallied for a Game 1 loss to win.Emilee Rankin added 13 assists, Lexey Shick nine digs and Eiley McGregor, Kali Flick and Lexey Shick each had four kills for Union.

Seneca Valley capped off the first unbeaten and untied regular season in school history with a 4-0 win over Hempfield.The Raiders are 18-0 heading into the WPIAL playoffs.Seneca Valley was 17-0-1 during the regular season in 2009 and advanced to the PIAA quarterfinals before finally suffering a loss that year.Karns City 7, Keystone 1 — Megan McCartney scored a pair of goals to lead the Gremlins (15-1).Emily LoPresti, Taylor Downs, Collette Stahlman, Haley Sherer and Chelsey Dodds also found the net for Karns City.

Freeport's Audrey Clawson shot an 81 to finish fifth in the WPIAL Class AA Western Qualifier at Tom's Run Golf Course to advance to the PIAA Girls Golf Championships.It's the third consecutive season Clawson has advanced to the state finals.This year's championship will be held Monday and Tuesday at Heritage Hills Resort in York.
