Patrick A. Lope
Patrick A. Lope, 89, of Wexford died at Good Samaritan Hospice on Thursday.
Born July 31, 1925, in Munson, Pa., to Philip and Jenny Lope, he attended Clearfield High School before joining the U.S. Navy and serving our country as a midshipman from 1945-46.
After returning from the service, he settled in central Pennsylvania, where he met and married his partner for life, Mary A. Vizza. Pat and Mary started their family while operating Pat's Food Market in Johnstown.
Pat spent the next 35 years in the grocery and food industries, retiring from Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. in 1988.
After retirement, Pat and Mary spent many wonderful years with friends at their homes in Glenshaw and Bradenton, Fla. Great memories were created at the beaches in Florida, following all of the grandchildren's activities, their many trips including to their native towns in Italy, and countless games of Scrabble and cards with family and friends.
Pat will be especially remembered for his ability to make friends with everyone from CEOs to the man on the street. His natural interest in others was displayed in his work relationships, his friends, the neighborhood youth, but mostly through his children and grandchildren. He was a friend of everyone.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary of Wexford; his children, Philip (Meg), Theresa Stahler (Bill), Tom, Patrick (Leslie), Mark (Susan) and Chris (Rhonda); his grandchildren, Patrick (Lea Ann), Margie, Katie Casker (Steve), Matthew, David Stahler (Jessi), Michael Stahler, Mark Stahler (Katie), Mary Pat Stahler (Lee), Julie Walker (Matt), Sarah Sakoian (Christian), Thomas, Kerry, Christina, Adam, Ben, Nick, Kelsey, Courtney and Ashley Lope; and his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Wyatt, Stella, Mia, John Philip, William, Ryan, Drew, Cara, Hunter and Theo. Also surviving are his sisters, Rose, Anna Louise and Jeanie; his brother-in-law, Merle; and countless adoring nephews and nieces.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank; and his daughter-in-law, Amy Beth.
LOPE — Services for Patrick A. Lope, who died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Alphonsus Church in Wexford, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 250 Swinderman Road, Wexford.
