About 30 volunteers from Stantec spent Monday painting and putting down mulch at the Butler County Children's Center on Homewood Drive as part of Stantec in the Community Day, a company day of service worldwide. Stantec is an engineering, consulting and design firm with an office on East Diamond Street.

“It is a privilege for us to work with the center and to be able to make a tangible contribution to the environment for these young children,” said John Brock of Stantec.

Alice Nunes, director of the children's center, said, “As a nonprofit we depend on the community to help provide donations, support and services to the families in Butler County. Stantec has been a longtime supporter of the children's center and on behalf of the board of directors and staff, I would like to thank Stantec for their generous community service by keeping our playground in tiptop shape.”

The playground makeover included scraping, sanding and painting fences and putting mulch on the play surfaces.

The children's center was picked because Stantec's staff wanted to support children's causes. Stantec also supports the agency's Books for Kids project which provides 510 children at the center with books three times a year.
