NHL MVP Crosby back on ice today with Penquins

PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby is a pretty quick healer.

The Pittsburgh Penguins star center and reigning NHL MVP skated with his teammates today when the Penguins opened training camp.

The team had announced Thursday that Crosby would be held out of the early days if training camp with an unspecified minor injury.

Crosby said he was cleared to practice this morning and wasted little time jumping onto the ice at Consol Energy Center. He skated for about 50 minutes before leaving.

The 27-year-old declined to elaborate on how he was injured, saying only that it occurred a few days before camp began.

He called the first practice under new coach Mike Johnston “pretty intense.”

While Crosby did skate, teammate Evgeni Malkin did not. Malkin is dealing with his own injury issue, though it is not expected to keep him out for an extended period of time.
