The Butler County Prison still is projected to generate more than $2 million in revenue for 2014.

For this year, the prison was budgeted to bring in nearly $1.9 million. As of Aug. 31, nearly $1.7 million, or 91 percent of the budgeted total revenue, was accrued.

The revenue partially offsets the budgeted $10.6 million cost to operate the facility.

Most of the revenue, $1.6 million, came from housing state and federal inmates.

“We’re still on track to receive $2.5 million,” said county Controller Ben Holland Tuesday.

Holland told the rest of the county prison board that could change between now and the end of the year, but there should not be a problem exceeding the $2 million mark.

“Revenues are way above the budget,” he said.

As of Monday, there were a total of 386 inmates. Of that total, 42 were federal inmates and 49 were state prisoners.

The county charges the state a daily rate of $70 per inmate and $76 to the U.S. Marshal’s Office for federal prisoners.

Warden Rick Shaffer said he was not counting on Fayette County as a revenue source.

“I’m going to assume we’re not going to get anymore from them,” he said.

The Butler prison was housing Fayette inmates earlier this year.

The daily inmate housing fee assessed to other counties is $60.
