Butler man, 62, injured when scooter hits deer

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — A 62-year-old man was seriously injured late Sunday night when the motor scooter he was driving struck a deer on Reiber Road, state police said.

Michael R. Singer of Butler was traveling east on a 1987 Honda Helix scooter about 11:45 p.m. when the deer ran onto the road. He saw the deer and tried to avoid it.

“He did what he could,” Trooper Justin Werner said of Singer.

The collision knocked Singer off the bike. He was not wearing a helmet, police said

He was taken by ambulance to the Connoquenessing Borough Building, where a medical helicopter landed and flew him to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh

Authorities said Singer suffered a possible head injury. He was listed Monday in stable condition. His condition was not known this morning.

Police said they later found the deer dead in a driveway near where it was hit.
