Car, KC school bus collide on Route 268

SUGARCREEK TWP — A car collided with a school bus on Route 268 this morning.

Four Karns City School District students were on the bus.

Superintendent Eric Ritzert said the female bus driver and students appeared to come out unscathed for the most part.

“The children and the driver seem to be OK,” Ritzert said.

As a precaution, the children, one boy and three girls, were taken by another bus to the high school, where the school nurse and EMTs checked them for possible injuries.

Ritzert said one of the students, an 11th-grade girl, was taken to a hospital after complaining of a stiff neck.

The other three students, who are in grades 7 through 9, chose to attend classes today.

Ritzert said another Shriver Contract Services bus driver took over the first driver’s elementary school route for the morning.

He said the district was informed the car pulled onto the highway when the impact occurred about 6:50 a.m. near the township municipal building.

The female car driver reportedly was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Kittanning state police are investigating the cause of the accident.
