Mars soccer stays perfect

Freeport players celebrate a set win over Knoch in their girls volleyball match Tuesday night. The Yellowjackets remained unbeaten on the young season with a 3-0 victory.

Cole Ferguson scored the lone goal midway through the second half as Mars' boys soccer team upended Shady Side Academy 1-0 on Tuesday.

Andrew Diefenbacher assisted on the decisive play.

Planet goalie Dale Glavin made three saves to preserve the victory, which moves Mars' record to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Section 3-AA.

Karns City 10, Forest Area 0 — Tyler Pollock netted three goals and added one assist for the Gremlins.

Spenser Myers (two goals, two assists), John Garing (two goals, one assist), Conrad Snyder (two goals) and Noah Pollock (one goal, one assist) also contributed to the avalanche of offense for Karns City (2-1-1).

David Olszak made four saves in net.

Knoch 9, Kittanning 0 — Caleb Robb, Val Panger and Henry Palmer all scored twice to help the Knights win a Section 2-AA matchup.

Ben Andrews, Nick Kadunce and Sam Packett also scored for the Knights (5-1, 3-0).

Freeport 9, West Shamokin 0 — Isaac Bigenho scored a hat trick to help the Yellowjackets win a Section 2-AA matchup.

Freeport improved to 2-2 overall, 1-2 in section.

Slippery Rock 5, Kennedy Catholic 0 — Mark Cessar, Zach Dublin, Matt Dempsey, Nate Popejoy and Gavin McHattie all scored for the Rockets (2-1) in their home shutout win.
