Teen injured in dirt bike accident
CLAY TWP — A teenager was badly hurt Wednesday evening in a dirt bike crash at the Switchback Raceway on Route 8, authorities said.
The 18-year-old rider, whose name was not immediately known, suffered a serious head injury, said Chief Reid Campbell of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department this morning.
He was flown to an unknown Pittsburgh hospital. His condition was not known this morning.
The teen was riding a dirt bike at one of the outdoor tracks about 7:15 p.m. when he wrecked. He was knocked out but reportedly regained consciousness later, according to a Butler County 911 dispatcher.
Campbell said the teenager was bleeding from his head when a Butler Ambulance Service crew and firefighters got there. He was wearing a helmet.
The injured rider was treated before being taken to the nearby Unionville fire station where a STAT MedEvac helicopter landed and flew him to the hospital.
The Unionville Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
A telephone call to Switchback was not immediately returned this morning.
