BUTLER TWP — State police arrested 40 people over the Labor Day weekend for driving under the influence during sobriety checkpoints in Butler and Armstrong counties.
The roving checkpoints were in southern Butler County between Friday night and Saturday morning and in Armstrong County from Sunday night to Monday morning.
In addition to the DUI arrests, police issued 999 traffic citations, including 34 seat belt violations and seven child safety seat violations.
Police said troopers in Troop D handled 31 crashes, seven of them alcohol-related, over the holiday weekend.
Troop D covers Butler, Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer, and Armstrong counties, and a portion of Allegheny County.
