2 injured in car crash in Liberty Township

LIBERTY TWP, Mercer County — Two people were flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital Friday night following a single-car accident on East Valcourt Road.

Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash just after 9 p.m.

Fire Chief Dave Taggart said the car drove into a field and rolled over.

A young man and woman, possibly teenagers, were inside, he said.

The male was able to crawl out of the car, which was on its side. But when the female attempted to crawl out, the car rolled onto its roof and pinned her beneath, Taggart said.

Taggart said she suffered severe injuries to her legs.

“She had a broken femur,” he said.

Taggart did not know the man's injuries, but said he also was flown by medical helicopter.

Emergency units were at the scene for about 90 minutes.
