Dangerous driving

Heavily traveled state Route 68 between Evans City and the Point has become the most dangerous highway in Butler County. Speeding, illegal passing and passing on the shoulder are the norm.

On a recent trip from Connoquenessing to Evans City I was passed, illegally, by a vehicle traveling in excess of 70 mph.

Of the oncoming 43 vehicles I encountered, I noted two cars using the shoulder to pass a car making a left turn, four cars passed in a no passing zone, and a frightening 18 drivers using their cell phones.

I realize the police forces are busy with other matters and they are mostly understaffed, but something must be done before more drivers lose their lives on this highway. Using the shoulder to pass is illegal and very dangerous as it jeopardizes other drivers and pedestrians.

As a side note to PennDOT, a traffic light at the intersection of Route 68 and Brownsdale Road and a no left turn sign on Constitution Avenue in Connoquenessing (turning towards Butler) would improve the safety of the highway.
