MERCER TWP — A man was injured early this morning after his car struck a tree along Grove City Road.

Crews from the Slippery Rock and Harrisville volunteer fire departments responded to the 500-block of the road about 3:30 a.m.

Slippery Rock Fire Chief Dave Taggart said the driver had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was taken to the Grove City Medical Center by Superior Ambulance Service with unknown injuries.

A medical helicopter was placed on standby but was not needed, according to 911 reports.

Taggart said he did not believe the man's injuries were life threatening.

Units were on scene for about two hours.
