Raiders moving forward

JACKSON TWP — Movin' on up.

The Seneca Valley girls tennis team achieved an overall record of 11-7 in 2013, the best mark in Eric Grove's five seasons with the team. He's looking for his squad to take another step in the right direction this year.

“We have a lot of strong players,” said Grove. “I'm excited with how close (in talent) this team is. If one player drops off, somebody will be there to step in.”

Leading the Raiders will be junior Allie Head, who makes the move from No. 2 singles player last year to No. 1.

“She wins a lot of matches,” Grove said. “She's consistent, sees the court well and plays a strategic game.”

After playing first doubles last year, senior Allie Grence begins the season at No. 2 singles, followed by junior Kerry Shults at No. 3.

A pair of seniors, Melissa Karidis and Abbey White, will compete at No. 1 doubles. Junior Aubrey Stanchak and sophomore Cylie Aronsohn will team up at No. 2.

SV will compete in Section 2-AAA with the likes of Butler, Hampton, Knoch, Mars, Moon, North Allegheny, North Hills, Pine-Richland and Shaler.

“I expect good things from the girls,” said Grove.
