I-79 lane restrictions expected for a week

CRANBERRY TWP — Lane restrictions will occur this week on Interstate 79 just south of Cranberry Township, a move that could complicate traffic patterns here.

Steve Cowan, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation, said Monday that crews will be inspecting the bridges that carry the interstate over the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

State officials are required to inspect the bridges once every two years.

Single-lane closures can be expected between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through Aug. 26.

Cowan said there also could be intermittent lane closures on the turnpike if needed during that time. He also said the work will be done during the daylight hours in an effort to minimize disruptions to rush hour traffic.

All of the ramps to and from Interstate 79 will remain open during that time, he said.

Cowan said drivers are urged to slow down in the work area and to expect changing traffic patterns during the weeklong process.
