Concordia acquires Monroeville nursing home

JEFFERSON TWP — Concordia Lutheran Ministries has acquired The Cedars of Monroeville skilled nursing and personal care facility and Cedars Home Health Care Services.
Concordia made that announcement Friday.
Now called Concordia of Monroeville, the facility is licensed for 59 skilled nursing beds and 87 personal care beds. About 160 people work at the facility.
“Concordia has been interested in expanding into the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh and this location is ideal,” said Keith Frndak, president and CEO, in an e-mail. “We look forward to serving the people of Monroeville and surrounding communities for many years to come.”
“The board of directors of The Cedars is very pleased to be turning over the operations of the facility to a provider with Concordia’s reputation,” said Rita Windsor, chairperson of The Cedars board, in the same e-mail. “We are confident that Concordia will provide high quality care to the residents and treat the staff with great respect.”
In May in a separate transaction, Concordia acquired the former Cedars Hospice building at the same site. Plans for the building still are under development.
With The Cedars acquisitions, Concordia operates 555 independent living units, 984 personal care or assisted living beds, 349 skilled nursing beds and 26 hospice beds in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Concordia also operates an array of home and community based services including home care, hospice care, child care, adult day services, durable medical equipment and an institutional pharmacy.
Concordia employs about 2,100 people companywide.
