Local runners win at St. Barnabas 5K

GIBSONIA — Local runners were among the winners of Saturday's St. Barnabas 5K.

Antonio Gomez, 54, of Cranberry Township won the Patriot category while Sheryl Relic, 55, of Mars won the Grand Master women's division.

Team Smocer — consisting of 46-year-old Michael, 13-year-old Makara and 10-year-old Marin Smocer of Cranberry Township — won the team portion of the event.

Jed Christiansen, 27, of Greenville and Aubrey Moskal, 24, of Morgantown, W.Va., were the overall male and female winners.Moskal set the women's record time of 16 minutes, 26 seconds.

Mars girls hoop camp this month

ADAMS TWP — The Mars Girls Summer Basketball Camp takes place from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 11-14 at Mars Middle School.

The camp is open to any girl in grades 4-8 and is not limited to the Mars area. Fee is $85 with a discount given to siblings.

Memorial 5K held Sept. 20

JEFFERSON TWP — Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, will host its 13th annual Memorial 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Walk Sept. 20 at the North Park swimming pool.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., the run/walk at 9 a.m. Registration fees are $20 until Sept. 15, $25 afterward.

Proceeds benefit GSH programs for residents facing a life-limiting illness.

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Township Athletic Association has online registration available for the fall baseball and softball seasons.

Registration deadline is Sunday for most leagues.

Golf outing set for Aug. 17

PENN TWP — The first Knock One Out of the Park golf outing, benefitting The Associated Artists of Butler County and the Butler BlueSox Boosters, takes place Aug. 17 at Conley's Resort.

Shotgun start is at noon. Fee is $75 per golfer, $300 per foursome. The event includes a four-person scramble, food, beverage and awards reception.
