Bob Heaton donated $1 million to BC3

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College is now $1 million closer to paying off its planned library renovations, thanks to the single largest donation in the college’s history.

Real estate developer Robert Heaton of RHGL Inc. believes BC3 is one of the biggest sources of pride in the county.

“Because of the general studies that they do, they teach students to work with their hands,” Heaton said.

He made his donation official this morning at a ceremony at BC3.

He said his pride for the college is twofold: students can study a variety of subjects and can stay in the community, while also doing so affordably.

In addition to his $1 million contribution to the John A. Beck Library renovations, which will cost about $4.7 million, he also announced he would add $200,000 to the Glen and Rhea McCandless Logan Memorial Scholarship.

Heaton established that scholarship last year with an initial $50,000 contribution.
