Crash injures 2 truckers on turnpike

CRANBERRY TWP — Alcohol is a suspected factor in a fiery crash Wednesday night that injured two truckers on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, state police said.

Jason Tyrone Woods, no age given, of Atglen, Chester County, and Sevdalin Zaimov, no age given, of Yonkers, N.Y., were both taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry with unknown injuries.

Both men were driving tractor-trailers westbound on the turnpike about 9:15 p.m. when the crash happened about a mile west of the Cranberry exit.

Authorities said Woods was in the right lane when he went off the side of the road and struck the other rig, which was legally parked in a wide area.

Woods’ tractor — trailer eventually stopped at the end of the wide area. He was able to get out of his wrecked truck just before the vehicle caught fire, police said.

Cranberry Township EMS treated the drivers before taking them to the hospital. Their conditions were not known this morning.

The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Depart was called and a crew put out the fire.

Police said the suspected drunken driving crash is under investigation.
