12:33 p.m. Sunday — Cars driven by Cheryl A. Shuler, 58, of Butler and Mary S. Hook, 65, of East Butler collided at Brady and First streets.9:35 a.m. Friday — Abbi R. Cochran, 23, of Hilliards was arrested after she was caught allegedly stealing two cans of energy drink and a bottle of coffee drink from the A-Plus Sunoco store on West Jefferson Street. The items are worth a combined $8.Cochran, who has two prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned on a charge of felony retail theft. She is free on her own recognizance.Friday — Aaron A. Arnold, 31, of Butler was arrested on charges he stole $150 and a check Tuesday from a home in the 400 block of West Wayne Street. Police suspect Arnold got into the house after asking the victim, a 51-year-old woman, if he could use the bathroom.The woman, who did not know the suspect, told police that she discovered the money missing from her purse after he had left. She also found a check missing from her checkbook.On Thursday, she learned that someone had forged and cashed that missing check for $400 at a downtown Butler bank. Police identified Arnold from his driver's license number that he gave to the bank to cash the check.Arnold was arrested and arraigned Friday on charges of theft and forgery. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail, following arraignment.

Sunday — Police reported they are investigating a case of suspected identity theft in which an unknown thief in May opened up a fraudulent JC Penney charge account in the name of a 69-year-old Center Township woman.6:23 p.m. Saturday — Kathleen M. Carothers, 62, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Bonniebrook Road in Summit Township.2 a.m. Saturday — Uriah Bish, 22, of Petrolia allegedly assaulted 19-year-old Sierra Bonia of Petrolia at a home in the 2700 block of Oneida Valley Road in Washington Township. Bish faces a charge of simple assault.12:30 a.m. Saturday — An unknown would-be thief tried to steal three generators, an air compressor, jumping jack compactor and several other tools from a new home construction site on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township.The suspect placed the items near a wooded area but did not come back for them. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.July 8 — A silver Hewlett-Packard laptop computer and a black Kindle Fire HD was stolen July 7 or 8 from a Slippery Rock University student's unlocked apartment at Stone Crest Apartments on Cornish Drive in Slippery Rock.

10 p.m. Sunday — A Rimersburg man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed on Agway Lane in Dayton.7:15 p.m. Sunday — Joseph T. Windell, 53, of Kittanning was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Poney Farm Road in North Buffalo Township10:53 a.m. Sunday — Eric L. Hindman, 39, of East Brady lost control of his sport utility vehicle driven and crashed into several trees down an embankment on Poncic Road just south of Route 68 in Bradys Bend Township. Police said Hindman was cited for a lane violation.

5:50 a.m. Sunday — A Grove City man and woman were hurt in a one-vehicle wreck in Pine Township, Mercer County. The crash happened when Joshua L. Leach, 37, lost control of his pickup truck and struck several trees along Route 208.Leach was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. His passenger, Jessica L. Benhaida, 33, was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh with serious injuries.Police said Leach faces a ticket for an unspecified traffic violation.Sunday — Nine people were arrested for driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint operation between 10 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday on Route 268 in front of the Hilltop Plaza in East Franklin Township.Officers stopped 311 vehicles as part of the detail. In addition to the DUI arrests, police issued 16 traffic tickets and nine warnings.3:27 p.m. Saturday — Two people were hurt, one seriously, when a car and dump truck collided at Route 173 and Jackson Center Polk Road in Worth Township, Mercer County. The collision spun the car into a tree that was in a yard.Angellea C. Page, 24, of Franklin, Venango County, who was driving the car, and her passenger, 25-year-old Levi A. Woods, also of Franklin, were both flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Police described Page's injury as major and Wood's injury as moderate.James M. Reed, 37, of Grove City was driving the truck. Police said Page was cited for a stop sign violation.Wednesday — An Ohio woman's black, 2000 Ford Excursion was stolen from the parking lot near the Nike store at Premium Outlets in Springfield Township. The sport utility vehicle, which has a gold stripe down each side and an Ohio license plate, was taken between 10 and 11:30 a.m.2:30 a.m. July 14 — A car driven by Trena A. Miller, 22, of Slippery Rock struck a ditch and crashed into several large stones at the end of a driveway on Route 258 at North Liberty Road in Liberty Township, Mercer County. Police said Miller was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.June 15 — An unknown identity thief in June opened up fraudulent Kohl's and Montgomery Ward charge accounts in the name of a Pine Township resident in Mercer County. Police noted that the suspect misspelled the victim's last name but still managed to open the accounts.
