Car stolen from hospital parking garage

Police are investigating if the same person who stole a car Thursday from the Butler Memorial Hospital parking garage in Butler may have stolen a van from Virginia the previous day.
Meanwhile, Virginia authorities are looking into the possibility that the same thief may have stolen a vehicle from Georgia before taking the van.
“We’re investigating this as a theft for transportation,” said Butler County Detective John Hertzog, who is assigned to the state police Auto Theft Task Force.
Hertzog has been in contact with the Albemarle County Police Department near Charlottsville, Va., about the stolen Ford Econoline, which he plans to help search today at the state police barracks in Butler Township.
The van turned up on the third-floor of the hospital parking garage after Butler police were called there about 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a stolen car report
An employee had gone to get his car but it was gone, police said. The car is a white, four-door, 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, with the Pennsylvania license plate DCV1801.
Hospital security officers, while helping police, noticed a green Ford Econoline in the space next to where the stolen car had been parked.
“The van had its ignition ripped out,” according to a police report.
A check found that it was listed as stolen in the National Crime Information Center database.
Hertzog sad the van was stolen Wednesday from a parking lot in Albemarle County.
Anyone with information about the stolen Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera is asked to call Butler police at 724-287-7743 or state police at 724-284-8100.
