ZELIENOPLE — Rescue and fire company officials are considering what will happen to the Park United Presbyterian Church when a dump truck that slammed into it is pulled away from the building.

Meanwhile, electric company crews restored power to nearly 1,000 customers in Harmony. Zelienople residents did not lose power.

The driver of the truck, who has not yet been identified, was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for evaluation.

Route 68 East, also known as Grandview Avenue, is not expected to be re-opened until mid-afternoon.

Pastor Paul Merrill said no one was in the church at the time of the crash, but he heard it happen from his residence next door.

“I heard multiple smashing and crashing, it sounded like a multicar collision,” he said.

Merrill said he did not know when, or if, the church would be usable again, which could affect the upcoming Horse Trading Days and the vacation Bible school planned for the following week.

“It’s just a building, the church is the people. We have insurance and they have insurance. It will just be an inconvenience for a couple of weeks,” he said.
