Grand jury indicts suspect accused of killing girl, 16

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday handed down a death penalty indictment against a Youngstown man accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old girl whose body ended up in a dump site in Mercer County.

Ricki D. Williams IV, 18, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, tampering with evidence and intimidation in the death of Gina Bacher Burger.

The indictment includes death penalty specifications alleging the murder occurred during the commission of other crimes — kidnapping and aggravated burglary.

Williams on June 23 allegedly stabbed Burger with a knife at an apartment complex in Austintown, a suburb of Youngstown, where the girl lived with her mother and older sister.

He used a portable playpen to carry her body to a nearby Dumpster. The girl's remains were picked up by a Tri-County Industries truck and hauled to the company's waste disposal facility in Pine Township, just north of the Butler County line.

Workers discovered the body June 25.

An autopsy determined Burger died of a stab wound to the chest.

State police helped confirm the girl's identity by tracking serial numbers from steel rods that were placed in her back from a previous surgery in Texas, where she lived until moving to Ohio in December.

U.S. Marshals on July 1 arrested Williams in Youngstown. He is in the Mahoning County Jail.

Austintown police believe Williams was acquainted with Burger during visits he made to the apartment complex to see a friend, 21-year-old Roneishia Johnson, who lived there.

Johnson told investigators Williams beat her and tried to get her to stab Burger. Williams said she refused.

She admitted helping Williams to dispose of the girl's body, according to a police affidavit, but only after Williams forced her.

The grand jury also indicted Johnson on a charge of obstructing justice.
