Cabot's Cornetti opens for SummerFest

Marianne Cornetti

Cabot native Marianne Cornetti has performed at opera houses from New York City to London, Rome to Berlin, and Florence to Barcelona.

The internationally renowned opera singer also takes time to come home, coaching students at Slippery Rock University and performing with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra from time to time.

Cornetti spoke at Knoch High School to a class on “Famous People of Saxonburg” in April, and she met with a chorus class at Knoch, her alma mater, in May.

Recognized as one of the leading Verdi mezzo-sopranos in the world, she will perform at 7:30 p.m. today in a rare solo concert to open the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh’s SummerFest season.

She will be accompanied by Brent McMunn, a frequent conductor who also leads a SummerFest production this year.

The season-opening reception follows her concert in the Art Deco Theater at the Twentieth Century Club building, 4201 Bigelow Blvd., Pittsburgh.

Tickets are $25 to $75. A preconcert dinner and postconcert reception are available.

Cornetti also will give a master class at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for Opera Theater’sYoung Artist Program. This is a ticketed event for the public at $25, but students may attend at no charge by showing a valid ID at door.

The master class is at the Beaux Arts Ballroom of the Twentieth Century Club.
