Not forgotten

July 4, 2014 was my 68th Independence Day on this earth and most of them I don’t remember. But this was one I know I will never forget.

My brother, Gary Reed, who was killed in Vietnam, was one of the five young men to be honored at a flag dedication ceremony at Highfield Community Center. Ron Zawrotuk invited my family and me to attend to the small ceremony.

It has been more than 46 years since Gary’s passing and I was amazed and touched by the number of people who came in his memory, to support me and my family and to honor my mother and father.

I can’t begin to explain how much effect this has had on me.

To all who came, I want to thank you so much. You have no idea how great it is to know that Gary is not forgotten and is still in people’s hearts after all these years.

All of my gratitude and thanks for such a special day goes to those who took part in the ceremony, but especially to the Highfield Youth Baseball Association, The Highfield Community Center, Dave Zanicky and Ron Zawrotuk who did so much to bring this together.
