1 of 2 Moraine park beaches to be open this weekend

MUDDY CREEK TWP — The swimming beach on the South Shore at Moraine State Park will continue to be closed this Fourth of July weekend.

However, Lakeview Beach on the park’s North Shore has been open since mid-May and will be open this holiday weekend.

Due to replacing sewer lines and a pump station on the South Shore of Lake Arthur, restroom and shower facilities at Pleasant Valley Beach are closed until that work is done. Park manager Dustin Drew said these facilities are needed for that swimming area at Lake Arthur to be open.

Drew said park officials hoped the project would be done by July 4, but that did not work out. He is optimistic it will be finished by the middle of the month.

“It’s very near completion,” Drew said.

However, the playground, picnic areas and volleyball court in the area still will be available for use. Drew said portable toilets are available for use while the restrooms are closed.

The work at Moraine will further reduce stormwater infiltration from entering the wastewater treatment system at the park, allowing for better operation and treatment process.
