James D. 'Jim' Hopson Jr.

James D. “Jim” Hopson Jr., 61, of Gibsonia passed away at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday at his home.

He was born on Jan. 2, 1953, in Concordia, Kan., to James D. Hopson Sr. and the late Ivona (Champlin) Kemp.

Jim was a 1971 graduate of Knoch High School. He then went on to earn his bachelor's degree in business at Kansas State University in 1976.

He graduated in 1994 from St. Francis Nursing School in New Castle as a registered nurse. He worked at St. John's Specialty Care Center as a registered nurse for 17 years.

Jim was a member of the New Community Church in Gibsonia. He was a Sebco softball coach for his daughters and worked with the Boy Scouts. Jim was an avid fisherman and enjoyed wildlife, camping and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

Mr. Hopson is survived by his wife, Vickie Lee (Kummer) Hopson, who he married on Dec. 9, 1972; his three daughters, Jaime Lee Wood and her husband, Herb, of Butler, Kristina Ann Hopson of Gibsonia and Kimberly Sue Campbell of Gibsonia; his four grandchildren, Victoria Ann Wood, Jasper Drake Wood, Cayton James Hopson and Shyla Virginia Starr Campbell; his sister, Susan Smith of Butler; his four nieces; and his five nephews.

Hopson — There will be no public visitation for James D. “Jim” Hopson Jr., who passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John's Lutheran Church of Mars, 420 Beaver St., Mars.Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
