Marjorie R. Gilson

Marjorie Ruth Patton Gilson, 96, of Portersville, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, passed away at New Haven Court at Clearview, Center Township at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

She was born in Slippery Rock Borough on April 4, 1918, to Thomas Lewis Patton and Sarah Eleanor Glenn Patton.

She married Gilford Louis Gilson on Feb. 12, 1949. He preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 2004.

She graduated from College Corner High School in College Corner, Ohio. She had worked in Ohio in the 1940s at a lumber yard as a secretary/bookkeeper and later became secretary/bookkeeper at Westminster College, working in the admissions department. She has been a homemaker since 1949.

She was a member of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Portersville. She enjoyed following the Pirates, watching golf and reading.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Ann Peters of Butler; three sons, Gilford L. Gilson Jr. of Portersville, Timothy L. and his wife, Shelly Gilson, of Dillsburg, Pa., and James W. and his wife, Tara, Gilson, of Portersville; one sister, Plauda Minner of New Wilmington; one sister-in-law, Libby Patton of Ithaca, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Mary Eleanor Patton, Dorothy Patton Edie, Glenna Patton Morton and Jean Patton Santimo; and one brother, Thomas L. Patton.

GILSON — Family of Marjorie Ruth Patton Gilson, who died Friday, June 27, 2014, will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday.Funeral services will be at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, 7152 Old 422, Portersville, at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Marsha Parrish of Oak Grove presiding. Interment will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.
