Defend the unborn

Few would disagree with Susan Stephenson’s assertion (“Stepping on my rights,” June 2) that we need to do more to help single expectant mothers and handicapped offspring to cope with daunting physical and financial challenges. But the answer is not to murder the unborn, nor is it an act of hypocrisy to defend helpless infants.
Untold thousands of Butler Countians have braved winter weather since the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision to participate each January in the March for Life in Washington, D.C., and we’re not hypocrites because we don’t usurp the place of God, deciding who should live and who should die.
Pro-abortion people find it convenient not to mention the heinous practices involving knives, scissors and powerful suction devices to rip that frail body apart, and immersing the infant in painful, hot saline solutions. Pro choice? The victims have no choice. They have no way of voicing their pain or trying to escape as a mistreated dog or cat could.
One of the most brutal leaders of all time was King Herod the Great, who ordered the slaughter of boys aged 2 or younger in the Bethlehem area as he sought to destroy Jesus. Yet Herod was a piker compared to abortion providers, as he killed only a few dozen babes in the Bethlehem area — modern abortionists have slain upward of 54 million innocent infants since Jan. 22, 1973.
There are indeed abortion options, including adoption providers and organizations like the Alpha Omega Centers in Slippery Rock and New Castle, which offer Christian counseling and donated supplies for young expectant mothers, deliver college and high school lectures on abstaining from Hollywood-glamorized premarital sex, and provide ultrasound viewings.
Once your average expectant mother sees her precious little baby via the ultrasound screen, deep love usually takes over, and another innocent life is spared.
In these days of daunting tax increases and decreasing revenues from an aging population, we’ve lost a large tax base from among those many millions who were murdered in infancy.
And in the hereafter, might God even show us that abortion had destroyed the one person who might have discovered a cure for cancer?
