Police say fatal crash may have been suicide

Court records showed that a Butler Township man who may have intentionally crashed his car into another vehicle, killing himself and the other driver, had repeatedly threatened to kill himself.
An ex-girlfriend, following a third attempted suicide by Michael H. Reid, last month apparently moved to have Reid placed in a mental health facility.
Along with suicidal tendencies, the 38-year-old Reid had a violent streak.
When he died, three different women — two former girlfriends and an ex-wife — all had protective orders against him, according to Butler County court records.
“Everyone he knows, fears him,” one of those women recently claimed in court papers.
State police believe Reid was drunk and speeding west in a Dodge Neon in the eastbound lane of Route 68 near Buhl Road in Forward Township about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when he collided with a Jeep Cherokee.
Hannah D. Swigart, 36, of Butler, who was headed home from work in the Jeep, traveling in the eastbound lane, died instantly. So did Reid.
Police say there is a strong possibility that the crash was intentional. Reid told police in a cell phone call just before the crash, “You won’t see me. I’ll be dead by the morning. You’ll read about me in the paper tomorrow.”
