Defendant denies he raped a Cranberry Twp. woman

Former Middlesex Township Ralph Skundrich, 47, on Wednesday afternoon denied raping a Cranberry Township woman in 2002.
Skundrich, on trial for rape and burglary, acknowledged having a criminal history, but said he is innocent in this case.
The victim, who was raped inside her apartment, acknowledges that she cannot identify her attacker. The case was cold from 2002 until 2010, when prosecutors linked Skundrich’s DNA to the crime scene. Prosecutors are banking on the DNA evidence to get a conviction.
Closing arguments and a verdict are expected Thursday. The trial started Monday before Butler County Judge William Shaffer.
Regardless of the verdict, Skundrich still must serve a 75- to 100-year prison sentence he received for raping a college student in Allegheny County seven weeks before the attack in Cranberry.
