KARNS CITY — Karns City School Board has passed a $25.7 million budget for the 2014-15 school year, which includes a tax increase in the three counties the district serves.
The school district had a $25.2 million budget for the 2013-14 year.
Property tax rates for Butler County residents will increase by 2.18 mills to 84.66 mills. In Armstrong County, taxes were raised by 1.16 mills, to 41.44 mills, and in Clarion County, taxes were raised by 3.93 mills, to 42,28 mills,
Unlike some neighboring districts that trimmed down teaching staff to balance the budget, Karns City will also be adding a teacher at Sugarcreek Elementary, said Linnea Lincoln, business manager.
That brings the total teacher and faculty headcount in the district to 112, she said.
