Howard Pitterhoff

Howard E. A. Pitterhoff, 91, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, died Tuesday evening at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born in Pittsburgh on Feb. 7, 1923, he was the daughter of the late Emily Knauf Pitterhoff. He was placed in the Mars Home for Youth when his mother was unable to care for him and then was raised by the Fritz Family in Middlesex Township.

He was an able seaman in the Merchant Marines during World War II and served in the Civil Air Patrol. He was also a member of the National Maritime Union of America and was a private pilot.

He was a carpenter and lifetime member of the Carpenter's Union in Pittsburgh until he was disabled in a fall at work.

Howard belonged to the John E. Mair Lodge 729, the F&AM and the Syria Shrine.

Surviving are one daughter, Susan Malin; his grandchildren, Heidi and Shaun; his great-granddaughter, Charlis; and his good friends, the Fritz Family in Middlesex Township.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Pitterhoff, and by two brothers.
