Lyndora man dies in Armstrong County crash

EAST FRANKLIN TWP, Armstrorng County — A Lyndora man was killed Thursday afternoon when a coal truck rolled on top of his car on Route 422, state police said.

Daniel D. Seitz Jr., 37, died in the wreck a quarter mile west of the West Hills exit.

Moments before the wreck about 2:50 p.m., other motorists had reported that Seitz’s white Toyota Corolla was driving erratically, according to investigators.

Police said Seitz lost control of his eastbound car when he crossed onto the south berm. The vehicle turned sideways and crossed both eastbound lanes,

Frederick E. Kennedy, 77, of Kittanning was traveling east and was unable to avoid the car that veered into his lane. Kennedy slammed on his brakes and hit the car, which got stuck in the median facing north.

Police said Thomas D. Wolfe, 39, of Adrian swerved his coal truck, which was traveling behind Kennedy, but hit the GMC’s driver’s side.

The tri-axle truck, owned by Mark Ann Industries, Inc. of Worthington, continued into the median, hitting the car’s front driver’s side and rolling onto it. The Toyota was crushed by the impact, police said.

Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers pronounced Seitz dead at the scene. Myers said an autopsy was planned today.

Police said the other drivers were not injured. Carolyn J. Kennedy, 77, of Kittanning was riding in the GMC and suffered apparent minor injuries,

The crash closed Route 422 for several hours. All three vehicles had to be towed.
