Driver injured in I-79 crash
JACKSON TWP — Following an accident this morning on I-79 northbound near the Harmony exit, a man was airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Around 9 a.m., a man reportedly in his 30s driving a Jeep Wrangler with an out-of-state license plate rear-ended a dump truck. The Jeep driver was trapped in the wreckage, Harmony Fire Department Chief Neal Nanna said.
Responders from the Harmony and Zelienople fire departments were able to free the man.
He was transported by Harmony EMS to the parking lot at Sysco Pittsburgh off Route 68 from where he was flown to the hospital.
His injuries are unknown, Nanna said.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
The accident forced the closure of one lane for about two hours, he said.
