Butler County's great daily newspaper

We were not paid

As a matter of full disclosure, I am Gordon Marburger’s brother; a registered Democrat; and a resident of New Sewickley Township, Beaver County. If you wish to stop reading right now, you have the right to do so.

I’m having trouble controlling my anger at state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe after reading his quotes in the May 21 Butler Eagle. Unfortunately, innuendo and truth-spinning have become a way of life in politics, but outright lies do not have a place.

I challenge Metcalfe to prove his claim that Gordon paid people to help with his campaign, as shown in his quote, “I didn’t have to pay people like Marburger.” There were many friends and family members who worked countless hours on his campaign, and none were paid. Unless having a few slices of pizza and pop is considered getting paid — then guilty as charged.

I also am disappointed in Metcalfe’s failure to debate Gordon. Apparently Metcalfe was abiding by the doctrine, “It is best to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”

I would like to thank the more than 2,000 voters who took the time and made the effort to write in Gordon’s name. To the voters who selected Metcalfe and especially to the thousands of others who failed to vote at all — or did not even bother to register to vote — congratulations, you got exactly what you deserved.
