BUTLER TWP — The Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday notified employees who would no longer work there when its ownership changes Sunday.

Bruce Peckman, a managing partner in Investment 360 of Lakewood, N.J., which bought Sunnyview from Butler County, said in an interview that fewer than 10 percent of the staff will not return. The nursing home has 250 employees.

Peckman on Friday reiterated his previous comments stating the company would keep 90 percent of the staff.

He said that 10 percent includes workers who did not apply for a job with Investment 360 or who transferred to another county department.

While the company is not hiring some workers who applied, Peckman said those decisions were not made lightly.

“Everyone who was not retained was not retained for a reason,” he said.

Peckman said Sunnyview administrators had input on who was not hired.

“It was not made in a vacuum,” he said.

Of the total staff at the 220-bed nursing home, 230 are union workers represented by SEIU Healthcare. Peckman said the union was aware the staff reduction would occur.

A SEIU representative could not be reached for comment.

County Commissioner Bill McCarrier, board chairman, said there is no problem with the company’s actions.

“They did what they said (they would),” McCarrier said.
