Observe Memorial Day

Tired of reading here the endless bickering between parties of differing opinions? I would like to offer a deeply touching alternative for one day. Monday, May 26, is Memorial Day, a day to remember the more than 848,000 American veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Veterans’ Committee of Butler County, led by Director John Cyprian, plans and organizes activities in remembrance of those veterans. Attending any one of these events will leave you with a sense pride and reverence for the United States and its veterans:

• Sunday, May 25, 7 p.m.: An indoor military memorial at Lyndora American Legion Post 778.

• Memorial Day, 9 a.m.: Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Facilities Auditorium — A stirring memorial for residents, county veterans wishing to attend, and the public.

• 11 a.m.: Parade along Main Street will feature veterans of all branches of service.

• Immediately following the parade: A graveside ceremony at North Cemetery honoring Butler County veterans killed in action.

• Sunday evening at American Legion Post 778; and Memorial Day morning at the VA Auditorium feature the never-to-be-forgotten, POW/MIA salute. County Veteran of the Year, Marine Ben Cypher, will speak at both ceremonies.
