Frackers back Corbett

Many thanks to Bonnie Fleeger. Her provocative letter (“Nobody really knows,” April 9) succinctly points out the hazards of being misinformed over hydraulic fracturing.

Fortunately for the fracking industry, their top boy in the commonwealth is Gov. Tom Corbett, a free-market utopian who believes that much in the way of regulating the gas fracking industry is bad for business.

As a candidate four years ago, Corbett accepted $1 million of love from the gas industry. Such love has not gone unrequited. Proof positive is that the frackers are so poorly monitored and regulated in key areas of the gas-extraction process. They are not to disclose the chemicals they combine with water and sand to complete the fracking cocktail that is rocketed into wells to release oil and natural gas.

As for taxes, Pennsylvania has the lowest extraction tax at the well because there is no such tax, thanks to Corbett.

And we ain’t seen nothing yet, if the industry succeeds again in buying the governor’s office for Corbett.
