Dog Law Office prepares to canvass Butler County

Fine for license violators is $300

The state will conduct a manhunt in Butler County for scofflaws with unlicensed dogs.

The state Department of Agriculture’s Dog Law Enforcement Office on Thursday will canvass the county checking for violators.

County Treasurer Diane Marburger said the state is putting on a bigger push this year.

Kristen Donmoyer, dog law office director, on Wednesday was in Butler to discuss the pending canvassing with Marburger.

“The Dog Law Office means business,” Marburger said. “I have never received a visit personally from the director of dog law enforcement to discuss a dog licensing canvass in the county in the 15 years I’ve been here.”

Typically, four dog wardens scour the county looking for illegal canines.

Marburger said the state next week will bring in all its surrounding wardens.

“This will be a bigger presence,” she said.

Violators will be fined $300 per pooch.

March was Dog License Awareness Month and April is the kickoff for enforcement.

Marburger encourages all dog owners to get their 2014 licenses before Thursday.

She stressed dogs with implanted microchips still need licenses.

A license costs $8.45 for unneutered dogs and $6.45 for neutered canines.

To order a license online, visit the treasurer’s website at www.co.butler.pa.us.

Licenses also are available at the treasurer’s office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at 124 W. Diamond St.

The treasurer’s website has a complete list of dog license agents in the county.
