Crash kills woman

Pickup truck hits motorcycle

PITTSBURGH — A Butler County woman died at a hospital Monday afternoon of injuries suffered a day earlier when a pickup truck crashed into the motorcycle she was riding in eastern Mercer County.

Julie Ann Codispot, 46, of Clay Township was pronounced dead at 12:24 p.m. at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. She died of severe injuries to her head and body, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

There was no autopsy.

Her husband, Robert M. Codispot, 50, who was driving the motorcycle, was injured and treated at UPMC Greenville. Authorities said he was later released.

State police said the Codispots were southbound on Route 19 in Sandy Creek Township a little after 5 p.m. Sunday when a pickup turned in front of their 1998 Harley-Davidson Road King.

A 17-year-old girl driving the 2003 Ford F-150 was turning left into a store parking lot south of Carpenter’s Corner Road, police said.

The two vehicles struck nearly head-on.

Neither Robert nor Julie Codispot was wearing a helmet. Police said the motorcycle was badly damaged. The girl, who authorities did not identify, was wearing a seat belt. Her truck had moderate damage.

Ambulances took both Codispots and the teen to UPMC Greenville. A medical helicopter later flew Julie Codispot to UPMC Presbyterian.

The girl was treated for minor injuries and released, authorities said.

Trooper Christopher Leskovac, the investigating officer, was unavailable for comment this morning, and it was not known if police plan to file any charges in the crash.

The Martin Funeral Home in Butler is handling arrangements. A worker there said this morning that the arrangements are incomplete.
