Driver hurt in accident on Saxonburg Road

JEFFERSON TWP — A 23-year-old Butler woman was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital Friday following a two-car accident on Saxonburg Road.

State police said Nicole M. Rusk was driving southbound shortly after 4 p.m. when her car veered into oncoming traffic, just past Equine Lane and hit a pickup truck driven by Stephen W. Rome, 30, of Butler.

Police said Rome steered left in an attempt to evade Rusk's car, but his Ford F-350 pickup truck crashed into her car head-on as she attempted to swerve back into her lane.

Rusk had to be freed by the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company. She had major injuries and was flown by LifeFlight to Allegheny General Hospital.

She was not wearing a seat belt.

Rome was not injured.
