Harmony woman dies in crash on Route 68

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — A Harmony woman was killed Friday night when her car struck a tree along Route 68.
State police said Belinda S. Gall, 38, was driving north on a curve in the road about 6:30 p.m. when she traveled into the oncoming lane and then went down an embankment near Stephenson Road. Gall’s 1999 Chevrolet Prizm struck a tree and caught on fire.
She was not wearing a seat belt.
Police said Gall was pulled from the burning vehicle by several people and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The accident caused Route 68 to be shut down for more than four hours.
Mark Huffman of Cranberry Township said he arrived shortly after the accident happened.
“The car was totally smashed and on fire when I arrived,” he said. “It hit the pine tree square.”
Huffman, whose parents live in a home close to the crash, said people pulled Gall out and tried to perform CPR before the car caught on fire.
“Something has to be done about this road,” he said, adding that his mother is still in the hospital following a crash March 10 on Route 68. “People are driving too fast.”
The Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company and Butler Ambulance assisted at the scene.
State police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
