Wall facts touching

I would like to thank Jim Harff for his letter, “What the wall tells us (Feb. 20).” As he said, they were interesting facts from the Vietnam War Memorial that most people will never know.
I think he’s right. How many of us knew that more than 33,000 of the soldiers were only 18 years old when they died, or that 997 were killed on their first day in combat?
Mr. Harff’s letter was touching; it brought tears to my eyes. He said most Americans who read it would see only the numbers the war created. I want him to know that his letter did have a great impact and did reach people. In fact, it was such a great letter that I hope he sends it to newspapers across our nation. It’s something everyone should read.
I have always been grateful for those who serve and often think of their families and sacrifices. Now, I am even more grateful and more aware of their losses ... thanks to Mr. Harff.
