BUTLER TWP — Dale Lumley will be the next superintendent of the Butler School District.

Lumley, who has been superintendent of the South Butler School District since 2010, started his career in the Butler district, working at Butler High School for 25 years.

The Butler School Board unanimously approved Lumley to lead the district.

“Dale is a quality guy,” said Mike Strutt, Butler superintendent. “I think he’ll do a great job at the Butler School District.”

Strutt said he has known Lumley since he worked at Butler High School, where he was an English teacher, an assistant principal and principal.

“It is a privilege and an honor to be the next superintendent for Butler Area School District,” Lumley said, in a statement.

Although board members were unanimous in his approval, they were split on his pay.

Lumley was approved for a five-year contract, making $162,000 next school year. Board members Jeff Keffalas, Bill Halle and Neil Convery disagreed with the pay and so voted against his contract.

Strutt said with the current pay structure, he would be paid $162,000 in the next school year. Strutt makes about $157,800.

After Lumley’s time at Butler High School from 1980 to 2005, he was the assistant superintendent at Gateway School District in Monroeville, and began as an assistant superintendent at South Butler School District in 2009 before being promoted to superintendent there in December 2010.

Lumley lives in Summit Township with his wife, Dreama. They have two sons, Nicholas and Calvin, who are Butler graduates.
